Weal interview

Here are some quotes from Kings third-round selection Jordan Weal…

—–

Question: Did it feel like a long wait to get picked?

WEAL: “I didn’t get too worried about the numbers and stuff. I knew I was going to go to a team, and I’m going to go to a team and show them I can play and show them I can be a key part of the organization.”

Question: You’re a junior teammate of Colten Teubert. Have you talked to him at all about the Kings?

WEAL: “Not really. I’m going to have to talk to him after this. It’s going to be a funny conversation. He’s a great guy, and it’s going to be good to see him.”

Question: How many times have you been told that you’re too small to play? [Weal is listed at 5-9 1/2]

WEAL: “Every year of my life, I think. Even starting in Grade 8, my gym teacher said, `You know what? You should try a new sport, because hockey players are supposed to be big guys.’ I just took that to heart, and it fuels my summers with motivation and it helps me get through the tough times.”

Question: How would you describe your game?

WEAL: “Quick player. I feel I really make the players around me better, with my vision and my skills. I also take a lot of pride in my D-zone. I’m a guy that doesn’t like to get scored on very much. I take a lot of pride in that, and it’s something I’m going to keep building on.”

Question: Are you a natural center?

WEAL: “I can play everything. If the coach wants me to play D, I’ll play D.”

Question: Goalie?

WEAL: “You never know. I’m going to adapt to wherever I am, and I’m going to play the best that I can at that position.”
