The United States completed play in the IIHF World Championships today with a 3-2 victory over Italy. The U.S. won the relegation pool but finished 13th out of the 16 teams in the tournament. The U.S. lost to Germany, Denmark and Finland, then beat Kazakhstan, France and Italy.
Kings defenseman Jack Johnson, USA’s team captain, finished with three assists, a plus-3 rating, four penalty minutes and 21 shots on goal and led the team in ice time. Kings defenseman Matt Greene had one assist, a plus-4 rating, four penalty minutes and four shots on goal.
Russia, with Alexander Frolov, is still alive in the tournament and doing quite well. Russia is 5-0 in the tournament and is leading Finland right now. Frolov had one assist in his first four games.
