Extension time?

Next season, Drew Doughty will be entering the third and final year of his entry-level contract. If he doesn’t sign an extension before July 1, 2011, he will be a restricted free agent — although the Kings would have the right to match any offer sheet he received from another team — and starting July 1 of this year, he will be eligible to sign a contract extension with the Kings. Will he? I asked Doughty today for his thoughts on that…

DOUGHTY: “I’ve obviously thought about it a bit. There hasn’t been any talks or anything like that, but I’d love to sign a long-term deal. I love being in L.A. and I love the group of guys we’ve got. To be able to stick around here for a long time would be awesome.”
