Veteran presence

Terry Murray was asked today about the veteran presence of players such as Ryan Smyth and Jarret Stoll — who went to the Stanley Cup Finals with Edmonton in 2006 — and whether their personalities led them to being “coaches on the ice” for younger players…

MURRAY: “They want to play coaching roles, sometimes. (laughs) Those veteran players are real important to your locker room. Smytty has been through the wars of getting to the Finals in the past, as Stoll has. Their attitude, about how to come to the dressing room and just relax and have fun, help everybody settle in, go on the ice and go through your work in practice, really is contagious for the young players.”
