This is Matt Greene’s second go-around in the playoffs. He was a rookie in 2006 when the Edmonton Oilers made their Stanley Cup run, a part-time player who appeared in 18 playoff games that season after appearing in only 27 regular-season games. Now, after four more NHL seasons under his belt, Greene is considered a veteran leader and is an alternate captain. Greene played more than 22 minutes in Game 1 and almost 19 minutes in Game 2, and this morning he talked about the difference in this series, as opposed to his first playoff experience…
GREENE: “It’s a lot different. I think you know, a little bit more, what’s at stake. When I was with Edmonton, it was just kind of, `Whatever happens, happens.’ You didn’t really know how tough it was to get to the playoffs, and how much every game and every shift means. It’s a lot different. In Edmonton, I wasn’t really playing a lot of minutes. I was just kind of filling in here and there. Now I’ve got a little bit bigger role, and it’s a lot more fun, I can tell you that much. Knowing what’s at stake, and what’s going on out there, rather than being oblivious to it.”
