Loose, and ready to play?

As noted earlier, the Kings seemed to be a loose, happy bunch on the ice this morning. They cheered and banged their sticks on the ice after a quick pre-skate chat with Terry Murray, then cheered and celebrated some goals and plays during the skate. That was in contrast to the quieter, more reserved Canucks. What does it mean? Well, we’ll find out tonight, but after the skate, Kings captain Dustin Brown talked about the team’s mood…

Question: How does it feel for you to be in the playoffs?

BROWN: “I’ve never been in the playoffs in this league, so to finally have the opportunity to play in the playoffs is something that I’ve been looking forward to and something that I’m real excited about.”

Question: There were some upsets last night, some road teams winning. Does that give you some hope that you can pull off something similar?

BROWN: “I think that’s our thinking, but it’s not because of whoever won on the road last night. Our belief in this room is that it’s just a matter of how we play. They’re a good team over there, and we have to play our best to beat them. If we do, I think we’ll give ourselves a good opportunity to do so. I think that’s kind of our mindset going in, is that we need to just play well and the rest will kind of take care of itself, regardless of whether we’re on the road or at home.”

Question: You guys seemed pretty loose on the ice. Is that what you were going for, along with a sense of purpose?

BROWN: “I think are probably loose because they’re excited. That’s probably the best kind of loose you can have going into a game. A lot of guys haven’t been in the playoffs and they’re excited about it. I know, in that first period, there will probably be a lot of jitters, but it’s one of those things where I’d much rather have the excitement than be one of the guys missing that excitement.”
