I asked Terry Murray today about Anaheim’s third goal last night, the one in which Bobby Ryan picked up the puck behind the Kings’ net after the Kings’ Jonathan Quick and Randy Jones tried to play it. Was that a case of simple (albeit pretty brutal-looking) miscommunication between defenseman and goalie?
MURRAY: “That’s a communication issue. That verbal talk that you have to have as a defenseman, every time, when your goaltender is out of the net and he’s facing the wrong way. He doesn’t see all the forecheck pressure coming. The defenseman has to communicate where you are, what you want to get done on that play. It was just a mess-up.”
