Sharks postgame quotes

Here’s some postgame stuff from the Sharks last night… Kings practice is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start. It was scheduled to be an off day (not that certain writers are bitter or anything…)

COACH TODD MCLELLAN

(on the game, compared to previous games against the Kings…)
MCLELLAN: “We were a little more detailed. It still wasn’t easy. They are a very good hockey club. They came at us very hard in the third period. They got a lot of momentum off the power play, but I thought we were better along the boards. We won more battles. Our penalty kill, although we were under siege for a while, we were more detailed there. Just a better overall game.”

(on his line adjustments…)
MCLELLAN: “Small ones. Just small ones. But then again, they get the opportunity to adjust as well and they made some adjustments that worked in their favor as well. So it’s tit for tat, usually.”

(on his goaltender being his best penalty killer…)
MCLELLAN: “Yup. It has to be. It starts there and (works outward). I didn’t think we were very good in the faceoff circles in special teams situations. They started in our end on almost every power play and were really dangerous.”

DANY HEATLEY

(on the game…)
HEATLEY: “I think our real focus tonight was special teams and both our power play and penalty kill. I thought our penalty kill did a real good job and our power play got us a big goal. We were just trying to get pucks to the net and we’ve been working on that low play a little bit in practice and it worked out for us tonight.”

(on the goalies…)
HEATLEY: “I thought Ersberg played well in the first two periods. I thought we could have had three or four on him and he made some good saves and kept them in the game. In the third period we were shorthanded a lot and (the Kings) came at us and (Nabokov) kept us the lead.”

DAN BOYLE

(on the Kings’ special teams…)
BOYLE: “They’ve been dominant, power play versus our and penalty killing and vice versa. They’ve dominated us so far this year…. We got a big power play goal, so that was the difference in the game.”

(on the game…)
BOYLE: “The first two periods, I thought we were in their zone and we got a lot of shots on net and a lot of traffic. In the third, a little bit of hanging on which usually happens with the lead. They fought back but a little bit better effort on our part, I think.”
