A final note before the big USA-Canada clash in 15 minutes…
Usually an under-the-radar type player, Michal Handzus has been going through a burst of high-profile play of late. After going 21 consecutive games without a goal, Handzus has four goals and four assists in his last six games, including goals in three consecutive games (and his fourth game-winning goal of the season, against Washington). Goals aren’t what drive Handzus’ game, and it’s fitting that when Terry Murray talks about Handzus’ success, he doesn’t even mention the goals.
Here’s what Murray said about Handzus’ game Monday…
MURRAY: “Handzus was real good. This is a division game. We play them three times in about two weeks, 15 days. Guys like Handzus, they know that they need to get fired up and perform well. There are a lot of heavy guys, big guys, that he’s got to match up against. It’s part of the challenge that he loves to take on, that head-to-head stuff that we saw tonight, and he responds very well, every time that he’s stepping onto the ice to meet it.”
