Erik Ersberg will get his fourth start of the season in goal tonight. Ersberg is 1-1-1 this season, with a 5-2 victory over Carolina, a 5-4 overtime victory over San Jose and a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers. Ersberg started both of the Kings’ games in Calgary last season, and neither went well. On Nov. 25, 2008, Ersberg allowed four goals on 18 shots and was pulled after 30 minutes. On April 6, he allowed four goals on 38 shots in a 4-1 loss. Then again, the Kings’ struggles in Calgary can’t totally be blamed on Ersberg. The Kings have lost eight consecutive games at Calgary.
Here’s what Terry Murray said today about choosing to start Ersberg tonight, followed by Jonathan Quick tomorrow night in Minnesota…
MURRAY: “That was the decision I made a couple days ago, and I told Ersberg before the practice yesterday that he was playing in the game and I told Quick that he was not playing in the game in Calgary and that he will be playing in Minnesota. I knew I had to do something here, not just because it’s back to back but because of the travel factor. That’s the determining factor for me. It’s going to be a late night.”
