The Kings are nearly back to full strength at forward, but two rookies — Corey Elkins and Brandon Segal — have impressed Terry Murray enough to earn fourth-line spots, at least for now, until Jarret Stoll returns from his groin injury.
That gives the Kings a rather hefty fourth line, with Elkins (listed at 6-foot-3, 216 pounds) at center, Raitis Ivanans (6-4, 240) on the left and Segal (6-2, 209) on the right. So the line has beef, but will it be effective? Here’s what Terry Murray said today, when asked about Elkins and Segal…
MURRAY: “They’re big guys. We like the size. We like their style of game, as far as getting in there and battling and competing hard for pucks. I think Segal, in particular, is a high-energy guy. He knows that he has to do the right things and keep it simple, getting the puck in deep and get a forecheck going. He’s a player that’s going to put pressure on defensemen, through hits and with his foot speed, getting on top of them. We like the fact that he has that kind of quickness and decision-making, and also the size that he brings. It gives us a better look on the fourth line. If he keeps doing the right things, keeping it simple like that, then he’s going to be an effective player for us.”
