Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the second period…)
MURRAY: “They took advantage of some opportunities. They’ve got some explosive players and they got a couple breakaway goals. They worked hard for the first one, coming on the wraparound, and got the crack in the door. They showed a killer instinct and went right after us and kept putting pucks to the net. We were gambling to try to get back into it a little bit, and we gave up a couple breakaways and they scored to make it 4-0 after two. Then, the horse is kind of out of the barn after that.”

(on a letdown after the first goal…)
MURRAY: “I thought, in the first period, we passed up many shooting opportunities, looking for one more play. We were in great position and, for some reason, tonight we got away from that shot mentality. You don’t like to see the game get broken open like that. You like to think that you can stop the bleeding at one or two and keep battling, but everything we did was the wrong decision and the Thrashers made a lot of the right plays and scored big goals at the right time.”

(on the physical play…)
MURRAY: “I think, at the end there, everybody is frustrated on our side of it at the 4-0 mark. The stuff that happened at the end of the second period and the third period, hey, nobody wants to see anything get out of control. Everything is going to be called. I don’t know if it becomes more physical, but I think the score dictates a lot of that.”

(on whether pulling Quick was about his play or a statement to the team…)
MURRAY: “It’s a little bit of both there. The goals came quickly. The third goal, that’s a critical goal. It’s 2-0, there’s still a lot of time left on the clock to get back into it, and you’ve got to make a save. That’s a routine play coming at you. You’ve got to get a save on that. But also, we did give up a couple breakaways too, so I’m not laying it all on the shoulders of the goaltenders here. In the third period, I thought we started to play the right way, even though we were down by four. We were doing the right things and putting pucks at the net, and again we make one decision and it ends up coming back at us. It’s an ugly game, it’s an ugly finish, and we have to move on and get ready for the next one here. I’m not blowing it off. We can’t just put it behind us that easily, but we do have a game tomorrow night.”

(on whether he got a look at Williams’ late hit…)
MURRAY: “No, I didn’t see it.”
