The third period didn’t get any better for the Kings, who suffered their worst loss, and their worst shutout loss, since a 7-0 loss against Nashville on Jan. 8, 2008. It was also very similar to a 5-0 defeat at Buffalo last Dec. 19. Two East Coast road games in which the Kings outshot their opponents by a large margin but got whipped. In that game, Jonathan Quick replaced Jason LaBarbera in goal. It was also a back-to-back situation, and the Kings lost 6-4 in Detroit the next night.
Justin Williams got a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct with 1:59 left for checking from behind when he knocked Christoph Schubert through the semi-open door to the Atlanta bench. An ugly end to an ugly game.
