Gretzky pushes Kings talk to future

Wayne Gretzky attended the Hall of Fame ceremony tonight, which was news because a) it was reported that Gretzky, owed more than $8 million by the league because of the Phoenix ownership fiasco, might not attend and b) Toronto media is interested in all things Gretzky. ALL things Gretzky.

Anyway, Gretzky was asked about the way Dean Lombardi “reached out” with interest in having Gretzky rejoin the Kings organization in some form, a story that quickly took on a life of its own. Gretzky didn’t signal any urgency tonight. Here’s the quote from ESPN.com from the pre-ceremony media scrum with Gretzky…

GRETZKY: “Dean (Lombardi) and I have been friends for a lot of years, and we often chat, and he was one of the first to call when I decided to step away from the NHL, and I told him we’d get together down the road. He’s doing a nice job in L.A. Down the road, we’ll sit down and chat.”
