Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the intensity of the game…) GREENE: “At this time of the year, with points meaning so much, and closing out the year, everybody wants to have their game going, going into the playoffs. These guys, they still had to get in the playoffs, and they did that tonight. It was [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “It’s just getting everything handed to you by them. That was it. They came ready to play. Obviously we didn’t. That was right off the drop of the puck. I don’t think that we were playing well in the first period. Again, we were giving them chances [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on his goal…) GREENE: “Goals are tough to come by this time of year, so you take it any way you can, off skates or whatever. You’re just trying to throw pucks to the net, and you never know what can happen.” (on getting two points and not giving one to [...]

School ties for Greene, Johnson

It doesn’t seem as though the “Frozen Four” will lead to a Cold War in the Kings’ locker room. Among the four teams remaining in the NCAA hockey tournament are North Dakota (Matt Greene’s school) and the University of Michigan (Jack Johnson’s school) and they will meet in next Thursday’s national semifinals. Greene and Johnson [...]

Matt Greene gets offensive

Matt Greene knows he’s not kidding anyone on the ice. He’s neither the swiftest skater nor the deftest puck-handler. Greene makes his money with physical, stay-at-home play, but last night, Greene made a big impact in the offensive zone. With the game tied 1-1, with about seven minutes remaining in the second period, Greene had [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on his rush and assist…) GREENE: “I didn’t know where I was passing it or anything. I just kind of threw it and tried to bank it off him [Garon] and it went through.” (on the win…) GREENE: “It was huge. Obviously we didn’t want to give them the one point, [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “Quickie was great, as always, as he always has been this year, and Kyle Clifford is one bad dude. He just keeps doing his job extremely well. That was huge for us tonight, that fight. That was a big lift for our team.” (on playing with more [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on being shut out…) GREENE: “I think the offensive guys did a good job. Their goalie had a great game tonight and they did a good job at clearing pucks. I think we had our chances and we had the pressure on us a lot of the night, and it’s unfortunate to give [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “We played the type of game we wanted to. It just didn’t come out the right way. … I think it’s going to come. I think it’s going to come here. We just have to stick with what we’re doing. We can’t get off page. I know [...]

Doughty hits Hall, gets cozy with Greene

For those who attended last night’s game, and didn’t get a good look — or for those who want to see it again — here is Drew Doughty’s second-period hit on Edmonton’s Taylor Hall from last night, the hit that led to Wayne Simmonds’ injury as well. Here’s the hit… As a bonus, here is [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the team being looser and having more fun…) GREENE: “We tried the approach of being ultra-serious, no smiles, everything like that, not having fun, complete business, and that didn’t work for us. Then we went through a half-and-half process. At the end of the day, we just regrouped and realized [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “We’re not where we need to be, if we want to have success. It’s a wake-up call for a lot of guys. It needs to be. We’ve got to turn things around right now, in a hurry, or else this is going to slip away from us.” [...]

Greene, Mitchell, Ponikarovsky updates

As previously noted, Matt Greene apparently has been suffering from flu symptoms, and it’s not known whether he will be able to play tonight. Willie Mitchell and Alexei Ponikarovsky both participated in today’s morning skate. It’s been clear, in the last couple days, that Ponikarovsky is close to a return, but Terry Murray indicated today, [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game breakdowns…) GREENE: “It’s mental and execution. It goes hand in hand. We’ve got to play the game, think the game and right now we’re not doing either one on defense. … This game got away from us. That’s it. We’ve got to be more disciplined against a team [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “Tonight was just a bad game for us. A lot of things weren’t working, and that’s it. This is one of those games that maybe you just want to put behind you. We’re lucky to have back-to-backs here again, because I think everybody in this (locker) room [...]

Greene cleared to play

After the game, Terry Murray said Matt Greene was “good to go,” meaning Greene’s baseline testing went well and that he would be able to play Sunday against Anaheim.

Greene, Mitchell updates

As posted earlier, the Kings are hopeful that Matt Greene will be cleared today to play, and that Greene will be able to return to the lineup for Sunday’s game against Anaheim. “He’s going to do his baseline testing here today, this afternoon, so he will be ready to go, post-holidays,” Terry Murray said of [...]

Greene takes step toward return

Matt Greene took a major step toward a return when he participated in his first full-team practice since last Wednesday. Greene hasn’t played since he took a hit to the head from Detroit’s Niklas Kronwall nine days ago, and Greene had been back in Los Angeles while the team played the last three games of [...]

Greene out one more game

After practice today, Terry Murray said Matt Greene is feeling good and that Greene will skate again tomorrow morning but will not play against Edmonton. Greene has not played since he took a hit to the head last Monday in Detroit. More notes and quotes to come from practice…
