Given his versatility and usually strong skating and forechecking ability, Brad Richardson had become a lineup regular for the Kings last season and this season, but the Kings happened to start winning when Richardson left the lineup, and Terry Murray decided to roll with the same forwards for a while. Given another chance, last night [...]
Richardson gets another look up top
Will the fourth time be the charm for Brad Richardson? Three previous times this season — for a total of seven games — Richardson has started a game as the Kings’ first-line left winger, but his life span in that role has yet to last more than four games. The Kings also went to that [...]
Tonight’s lineup: Richardson for Westgarth
The Kings are expected to make one lineup change tonight, with Brad Richardson replacing Kevin Westgarth on the fourth line. Also, as previously announced, Jonathan Bernier will start in goal. Only a handful of players went to the arena this morning to skate — healthy scratches from last night and those who didn’t get significant [...]
Going `fourth’ with some strong play
Terry Murray often talks about balance, and the ability to roll four lines, but not often this season has he been able to find that balance. Actually, most coaches talk about it, and it’s relatively hard to find around the league. But over the past few games, the Kings’ fourth line has arguably been as [...]
Richardson left out in line shuffle
Tonight’s return of Alexei Ponikarovsky to the lineup was good news for everyone except Brad Richardson, who will be a healthy scratch. After being a part-time player in 2008-09, Richardson was not a healthy scratch at all last season — he missed one game because of flu symptoms — and had played in 36 games [...]
Richardson postgame quotes
Brad Richardson’s postgame thoughts… (on the inconsistent play…) RICHARDSON: “That’s been our problem the last four games. We play one or two periods very well, and we play one period not so great, and that’s where we lose the game.” (on moving up to the first line late…) RICHARDSON: “It was just for the third [...]
Fourth line earns coach’s confidence
The Kings, once again, will go with a fourth-line look of Trevor Lewis centering Brad Richardson and Kevin Westgarth tonight. Terry Murray said Alexei Ponikarovsky, out with a lower-body injury, is “still a little lame. … He’s not able to cross over, pivot, open up, all those things that hockey players have to do.” Still, [...]
Kings not afraid to let it roll
The Kings played back-to-back games, Sunday at home against Anaheim and Monday at San Jose. That’s worth noting because, for the most part, it didn’t show on the ice. On Monday, having played less than 24 hours earlier, and facing a San Jose team with three days of rest under its belt, the Kings came [...]
Richardson postgame quotes
Brad Richardson’s postgame thoughts… (on his assist, after getting hit…) RICHARDSON: “It worked out good. Obviously you don’t want to get hit like that. [laughs] It’s never fun, but that one just kind of worked out really well. It just kind of stayed in my feet, and I got up and Lewie was wide open. [...]
Murray talks Richardson, Sturm and more
Neither the Kings nor the Chicago Blackhawks had a morning skate this morning, with the Kings — per usual with back-to-back road games — having a team meal and meeting at the hotel this morning. Here’s what Terry Murray said today about some of the storylines entering tonight’s game, starting with Brad Richardson, who will [...]
Richardson returns, Zeiler to Manchester
Brad Richardson is with the team in Chicago and will play tonight. He takes the roster spot of John Zeiler, who has been assigned to Manchester of the AHL. Terry Murray said he’s not yet certain exactly where Richardson will play tonight, but said he will likely take the lineup spot of Oscar Moller. Jonathan [...]
Mitchell, Richardson updates
Brad Richardson (upper-body injury) and Willie Mitchell (broken wrist) will both be out of the Kings’ lineup tonight, although it’s not a stretch to think that Mitchell could be back very soon. The Kings’ next game is Monday at Detroit, and it’s worth noting that nobody has declared that Mitchell won’t play in that game. [...]
Mitchell gets closer; Richardson uncertain
Willie Mitchell, recovering from a broken wrist that has cost him 13 games, continues to inch toward a return. Mitchell said today that he has still not been totally cleared, and will visit with the team doctor again tomorrow. Mitchell said he has not yet attempted slap shots, which, he said, “put a lot of [...]
Kings injury updates
Willie Mitchell had his wrist examined during last night’s game, and Terry Murray said he got “positive news. Now (it’s) just a matter of keeping at it, keep progressing as it relates to conditioning.” As for Brad Richardson, things are less certain. Richardson left during the first period of last night’s game, skating to the [...]
Richardson out for game
Brad Richardson has suffered an upper-body injury and is not expected to return to the game, the Kings said. Richardson left the ice with approximately eight minutes remaining in the first period, appearing to be in significant discomfort as he struggled to skate to the bench. It was not immediately apparent what caused Richardson’s injury.
Ailing Kings
Four Kings players – Alexander Frolov, Teddy Purcell, Brad Richardson and Justin Williams – are ailing with different levels of cold/flu symptoms. As previously posted, Oscar Moller is on the way from Manchester, and there’s a good chance that he will be in the lineup in place of at least one of those players. Terry [...]
Murray unhappy with goaltending (and other things)
In talking with people after the game last night, the general sense was that the Kings had a golden opportunity to put away the Red Wings in the second period. The Kings played a strong first period, the Red Wings were shorthanded and the Detroit crowd was dead. Give credit to the Wings for raising [...]
