Kings respond to Voynov news

Dustin Brown, on what he and his teammates talked about regarding Slava Voynov: As us in a group in here, we’re just trying to focus on what we need to do on the ice. This is an unfortunate situation, it’s about the guys in here and how we handle it, it’s important that we stick together. Brown, on how to keep it from becoming a “major distraction”: By just talking ...

Lombardi discusses Voynov situation

One thing noted by hockey operations earlier this morning and reiterated by Dean Lombardi in a discussion with team beat writers earlier today was that there is little precedence for the team’s situation as it relates to yesterday’s news regarding Slava Voynov. Voynov has been suspended indefinitely, and from the conversations LA Kings Insider had with hockey operations, his contract will continue to remain against the Kings’ salary cap, pending ...

October 21 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

On his reaction to Slava Voynov’s situation: Obviously really concerned, not just from a hockey standpoint, but a personal standpoint. On how he keeps this from being a “major distraction” to the club: We’re pretty close as a team. It’s not just ‘team,’ it’s more of a family thing. We deal with distractions all the time. We’ve been able to handle a lot of adversity and pressure for three years ...

With the news yesterday surrounding Slava Voynov’s domestic violence arrest, it should be reiterated that the primary concern at this point is the well-being of the alleged victim, given the details released yesterday by the Redondo Beach Police Department. Though Voynov has not been charged at this point, and there is well established principle of the presumption of innocence, this is obviously a serious matter that takes importance over any ...

October 20: Monday afternoon links

Obviously, we all know the big news of the day. There’s more coverage here, here, here, here and here. Mark Whicker of the LA News Group has a well articulated piece here, as well. As I noted in the comments section of an earlier post, there are plenty of questions that will ultimately follow about how this affects the Kings’ roster, the salary cap, and other tertiary concerns. It’s not ...

Voynov’s court date December 1; no charges have been filed

I just spoke with Slava Voynov’s attorney, Craig Renetzky. He confirmed that Voynov’s next court date will take place on December 1 – not this Wednesday – because bail was posted. There is “nothing unusual” about the December 1 court date; because Voynov posted bail, the first court date does not have to be within two days. No charges have been filed at this point. Per Renetzky, can decide to ...

Kings statement on Voynov

From the Kings: These developments are of great concern to our organization. We support the NHL’s decision to suspend Slava Voynov indefinitely during this process, and we will continue to take appropriate action as the legal proceedings and the investigation by the NHL take their course.
