Kings make first round of cuts

The Kings made their first round of cuts today, sending Jacob Middleton, Matthew Mistele, Michael Amadio, Jake Marchment, Spencer Watson and Roland McKeown back to their junior teams. There’s no real surprise here, given that Darryl Sutter said earlier today that “I don’t like those kids missing [junior hockey] games if they can’t keep up in this camp.” The Ontario Hockey League season opens tomorrow, so all OHL players (with ...

No alarm with Doughty, Quick; Bodnarchuk hurt

Drew Doughty offered a reassuring “good to go” when asked about his status at Toyota Sports Center on Tuesday. Doughty, who skated yesterday with those who did not play in the split-squad games against Arizona, took part in a full training camp practice earlier today. He was held out of the first three days of training camp after suffering an upper-body injury during on-ice, off-season workouts back in London, Ontario ...

September 23 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

On Slava Voynov’s 32-plus minutes in Arizona last night: All told, if there’d have been no goals scored on special teams, there would’ve been about 28 minutes in special teams, which is half the game. Sutter describes 23-man roster options

NHL teams can carry up to 23 players whose collective cap hits add up to under 69 million dollars, but it’s possible that the Kings won’t use the full roster allotment. The subject was raised when Darryl Sutter was asked earlier today about Adam Cracknell. Cracknell, signed to a one-year, $600,000 contract on July 1, is part of a short list of players competing for spots on the fringes of ...

Doughty returns to practice…

…and lo, it was good. If you need (grainy) photographic evidence, here you go: The plan yesterday was for Doughty to join an afternoon group comprised of those who weren’t playing in the split squad games, but this is the first time he’s joined an actual training camp session. I’ll consult with his coaches and teammates, but he didn’t appear to be too limited in his ability. Doughty has been ...

September 22 postgame quotes: Mike Richards

On any benefit in a preseason game with heavy special teams time: I mean, you’re working on everything out there – special teams. Five-on-five was pretty sloppy, so that game gave you a little bit of everything to work on. On the delay during the dry scrape prior to overtime: It was a delay, all right. I don’t know if I was a big fan of that, but I mean ...
