Rob Scuderi had quite a night Thursday. First, his current team held on for a 6-3 victory over Minnesota. Then, after things settled down postgame, Scuderi, a member of last season’s champion Pittsburgh Penguins, got his Stanley Cup ring. Minority owner Ron Burkle, a Los Angeles resident, brought the ring to Staples Center to give to Scuderi.
“It was really nice,’’ Scuderi said. “I thought they did a real nice job. It’s tough to sum up a season on a ring, but I thought they did a real nice job.’’
I was curious as to how Scuderi handled the Cup ring with his teammates. Did he show it off, and use it as motivation to show the Kings what they could achieve, or did he keep things low-key, in order to avoid the perception that he might be showing off?
“I’m not a showy type of individual,’’ Scuderi said, “so certainly it came in and the guys wanted to see it. I have no problem with that, but I’m not the type of guy to be kind of rah-rah like that. I think, at the same time, the guys see it, and everyone wants one of their own. I think it’s a thing where nothing needs to be said. I think everyone would like one. That’s the goal of everyone in here. I don’t think much needs to be said.
And where is the ring now, now that Scuderi is in St. Louis?
“It’s in safe keep already,’’ Scuderi said with a grin.
