Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on Williams’ status…)
MURRAY: “I haven’t been told, other than that it’s a broken leg. I can’t play doctor. I can’t predict. I have no idea. We’ll take him back on the flight with us tonight, he will see our team doctor and we’ll get the word out tomorrow.”

(on the Kopitar line lasting two shifts…)
MURRAY: “Two shifts, I know. It’s very disappointing. It’s very disappointing for Willie. You know, he’s gone through some injuries here in the last couple years, and he worked hard to get back to playing a good game. He was really happy with the line and how everything was going at the start of the year. It’s very unfortunate.”

(on getting Smyth and Simmonds back…)
MURRAY: “There’s not question, those are two good players, important players for us. Smyth gets his first game in six weeks, and Simmonds comes back fast from his injury and played pretty well here tonight.”

(on coming back from the eight-day layoff…)
MURRAY: “Machines can break down, probably more, because of rust than use. I wouldn’t say that we were rusty, but eight days between games is a long time. On the other side of it, we used it, I think, the right way. Now we have to get games under our belt to get the timing back and do the right things.”

(on the response after Williams’ injury…)
MURRAY: “There was a good response. Players go down, and other guys move into different spots and situations and get more minutes. I thought our second period was pretty good. We got some opportunities. We did the right thing with the puck. I would have been disappointed if that faceoff goal ended up being the winning goal. I was happy that we tied it up. At least it became a good game for a while there, at 2-2.”

(on whether Williams had x-rays at the arena…)
MURRAY: “I don’t know anything more than that it’s broken. And I said that on the bench. As soon as it happened, I walked over to Jamie Kompon and I said, `I think he broke his leg.’ When he was coming in front of the bench, on the stretcher, pulling his hair, he was hurting. He was hurting a lot.”

MURRAY: “We’ll talk about that, I guess, tomorrow or on the plane tonight. The other option, for a player, is Peter Harrold and Teddy. We’ll see how it goes here. Stolly felt good today. He had a workout this morning at 5:45 before we left, and he was feeling much better. We’ll see if he gets on the ice tomorrow and gets a skate in, but both he and Jones were there early this morning and got their rehab work in, and both felt much improved.”
