Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

MURRAY: “They [the Flames] came out with a real hard, heavy game, a gritty game here today. You take a look at our lineup, and they’re seeing a lot of guys that we’ve called up from the American league, and they want to push us out of the game with a lot of heavy play. I was real proud of our guys in that sense, that we didn’t go away. We came back in the third period and we outshot them, I think 16 or 17 to 3 in the third period, and we had a lot of great chances going down to the last faceoff. I think that’s kind of an indication as to how the team has grown over this year. It’s been a battle right from the start of the season, in every game, and it’s a learned part of the business and I’m real proud of these guys.”

MURRAY: “It’s been a very hectic and busy schedule here, in this month of December so far. But I think, when you take a look at the game tonight against Calgary, and how things went with the opportunities missed, with the D-zone coverage missed on that second goal, there was two points out there for us. We really felt that, in the middle of that third period, that we could get two points out of this game, because of the way the flow was going and the great scoring chances. If it’s not for Kiprusoff, in my mind, we end up winning the game.”

MURRAY: “Well, it’s always the winning goal that hurts. Both are difficult goals. The first one, on the faceoff, with three seconds left, if we just come and close quickly and just go right at him, don’t even hesitate, go right to him right away, there is no shot at the net. So you can look at that and say, `Man, with seven-tenths of a second left, that’s a hard one to swallow.’ But we hung in there. We battled.”

MURRAY: “Quick was good, real good. They put a lot of pucks to the net. They’ve got some big bodies. They’ve got some huge shooters from the back end, and you’ve got to really work hard to find the pucks. He gave us an opportunity, again tonight, to get settled in and have a chance to win the game.”
