Injury updates

Ryan Smyth, in his now-traditional red jersey, stayed on the ice for the entire morning skate today — he had been leaving the ice when teammates arrived — but did not participate in any drills. Based on the timetable, Smyth is still at least a week away from a return, but it won’t be time to seriously start talking about that until he starts participating in full drills.

Asked today if the timetable on Smyth had changed, Murray said, “Contrary to what he might tell you, no there is not,” and insinuated that Smyth has been pushing for an accelerated return. Reporters joked with Murray that Anze Kopitar might also be pushing for Smyth’s return, and Murray joked, “He’s knocking on my door every day, saying, `He’s ready to go!”’

Asked about Brandon Segal, who is out with a self-described knee sprain, Murray said, “He’s on the treadmill, running. He looks pretty good.” But Murray said there were no immediate plans to get Segal back in practice.
