Good Afternoon, Insiders!
A quick report for you, with roster moves from this afternoon –
– Forward Andreas Athanasiou has been activated from the non-roster list. Athanasiou was added to the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol list back on January 27 and has not played in a game for the Kings since. His activation is not a guarantee that we see him in tonight’s lineup, but the timing of the move makes you think it would be more likely than not. Athanasiou has five points (3-2-5) from seven games played with the Kings this season, as he scored in his first two games with the franchise and flashed his trademark speed during his short run with the team.
– Forward Rasmus Kupari has been reassigned to the taxi squad from the AHL’s Ontario Reign. Kupari leads all players in the AHL with eight points (1-7-8) from seven games played so far this season. On a team filled with young, highly-touted prospects, Kupari has stood out nearly every time I’ve watched the Reign play this season. He departs the AHL on a four-game scoring streak, and we’ve seen massive strides from the 20-year-old forward since his rookie campaign a season ago. In my intermission interview during yesterday’s AHLTV broadcast, Kupari was the player that I mentioned as a standout performer for Ontario in the first six games of the season….sometimes, they make you look good. The Finland native has flashed his skill, confidence, and a much better understanding of how to be successful at the AHL level in his second go-around. It’s a well-deserved opportunity for him.
– Forward Martin Frk has been added to injured reserve, retroactive to February 5. Frk initially suffered a group injury back in mid-January, during the Black – White scrimmage. The hard-shooting winger worked his way all the way back into the lineup on February 5 in Vegas, only to leave the game late in the second period and not return. Todd McLellan confirmed yesterday that Frk is not on this roadtrip and is not available for selection at this time. His movement to injured reserve opens up the roster spot for Athanasiou.
That should catch us up – Game Thread coming closer to puck drop!
