TRADE – Kings acquire Matheson Iacopelli in exchange for Spencer Watson

The big trade news you’ve all been waiting for!

Well, it is trade news. For the second time this season, the Kings and Blackhawks have made a minor move. The Kings have acquired forward Matheson Iacopelli in exchange for forward Spencer Watson. From the Kings official press release –

The 24-year-old Iacopelli (born May 15, 1994) is a 6-2, 207-pound native of Woodhaven, Mich. who has appeared in 85 regular-season games over the last three years with Rockford of the American Hockey League, posting 27 points (14-13=27) and 29 penalty minutes. He has also played in nine games this season with the Indy Fuel of the ECHL, where he has posted four goals (4-0=4) and four penalty minutes.

Watson, on the other hand, was scoreless from two AHL games with Ontario this season and collected two points (1-1-2) from 13 career games with the Reign. The 5-11 forward has been a top ECHL player with Manchester over the last two seasons, with 92 points (47-45-92) from 95 games with the Monarchs.

Via Cap Friendly, both players are restricted free agents at the end of the 2018-19 season. The move provides a change of scenery for both players, who were unable to establish themselves as regulars on their respective AHL clubs with the organizations that drafted them. In the event that Carl Grundstrom or Matt Luff is recalled by the Kings, Iacopelli could provide the Reign with another forward to help fill the void.
