Good morning, Vancouver

Good morning, Vancouver, and good morning, Insiders.

Pool party! While this room has a private deck some eight-to-10 steps from a swimming pool and would surely make for a festive indoor-outdoor space in the summer, everyone who has lived in these parts knows that summer is only held from July 4 through Labor Day in the Pacific Northwest. Today is November 27.

Our flight plan into Vancouver always brings us directly over Seattle right before we begin our descent, but I’ve never been able to capture the highly photographable city from 30,000 feet because there’s a cloud cover every single time we fly over it. There was more precipitation yesterday than your perennial drizzle and general PNW dampness. It was raining – fairly hard – and didn’t relent until the wee morning hours. It was getting dark when we landed just before 4:00 p.m. yesterday, which meant that the lights were on across YVR. By the time we got to our hotel near Coal Harbour, it was completely dark.

Rain in the northwest, you say?! Well, I’ll be. The LA Kings are scheduled to take the Rogers Arena ice at 11:30 a.m. in advance of their game tonight against the Canucks. There’s lots more to come on a busy game day, Insiders. Thank you for reading. Let’s talk soon.
