Sunday Thoughts – Ontario Reign Night, Goaltending, Home Opener

The Ontario Reign are back home after splitting a weekend set in Northern California. After arriving in El Segundo early this morning, the team is not skating today but the team will head to STAPLES Center this evening for Ontario Reign Night with the LA Kings.

Reign Night Tonight
Tonight is Ontario Reign Night as the LA Kings take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 7:30 PM at STAPLES Center. All fans in attendance will receive a magnet schedule that features both the Kings and Reign schedules. The Reign team will be at tonight’s game and select players will be signing autographs on the concourse behind Section 104 on the concourse from 6:30 – 7:30 before the game.

Eight players on the Kings roster are Ontario alums, including Austin Wagner, who, on Friday, became the 24th player to play for both the Kings and the Reign. Another Ontario alum, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, could make his NHL debut tonight against Detroit.

Tickets are still available for tonight’s game – Tickets purchased through LAKings.com/Reign will get a T-Shirt along with their ticket.

Goaltending
As Jon noted HERE, Ontario could see a goaltender recalled to the Kings in advance of tonight’s game. Cal Petersen played on Friday and Peter Budaj played last night, for reference. Ontario Reign Head Coach Mike Stothers reiterated after last night’s win that he feels that both goalies give the Reign a chance to win on a night-to-night basis.

I’m convinced that we’ve got solid goaltending and they’re going to provide us with a chance to win each and every night, both Cal and Buuds. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in front of them, they’re going to battle hard and they stayed with it and they give us a chance to win. Buuds did that for us tonight and it’s a reflection of how our team can operate when we have confidence in our goaltending and it moves out to the other players on the ice.

Reign Home Opening Weekend
Hockey is back in Ontario this coming weekend for the first time in the regular season. Ontario is next in action on Friday and Saturday at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Those that are connoisseurs of magnet schedules can come both tonight in Los Angeles and Friday in Ontario and receive one at each game. Ontario is also giving away a beanie on Friday night, making that game a double giveaway, and a bobblehead on Saturday night. All giveaways are for the first 5,000 fans.

That’s all for now after last night’s 3 AM arrival home from Stockton. I’ll be at the Kings game tonight, find me and say hi if you’re there!
