March 25 postgame quotes: Campbell and LoVerde

Jack Campbell, on how much easier it is for him to play with the lead:
It’s an excellent question. It’s definitely an easier game when you play with the lead. Not necessarily and easy game but if you’re executing and you can start with the lead it’s huge, confidence-wise and then just momentum too. They’re always trying to come back so just loved the way we played tonight and last night too. That team doesn’t give up at all. For us to get four points out of the weekend just shows we played two really good sixty minute games.

Campbell, on the physicality in the second period:
I think it’s great. We’ve got playoffs hopefully coming up here and playoff-type games the rest of the way. You’re going to get that in the playoffs and down the stretch here. It was nothing different than we expected but obviously they’re a bit chippy of a group. [Reporter: It seemed like Spencer Martin pointed at you when you guys were skating by.] Yeah, it was interesting. But I was just focused on getting the team two points and was able to do that. That’s what feels good to me.

Campbell, on the PK effort in the third and the Reign holding San Antonio with the goalie pulled:
We were executing great. Guys were sacrificing. Just so many guys contributing, making little detailed plays. Last night we had Schills lay out, face first into a game-saving block at the end of the game so that was huge. And then tonight we carried that same sort of desire to win all the way through the game. Can’t say enough about everybody.

Campbell, on the younger defense with MacDermid out of the lineup due to injury:
We definitely had a young group back there but I didn’t think you could tell. Obviously having Dermy, Trots, if we have everybody healthy on the back end it’s huge, it’s a great advantage for our team. But the young guys didn’t look out of place at all. They were playing bigger minutes. They were making great plays, smart plays. We came up with a simple game plan and I thought everybody executed it.

Vincent LoVerde, on the team’s effort and the young defense stepping up with MacDermid out:
I thought everyone played well. I thought it was a good team win. I thought the defensemen did a great job stepping up. Privitera came in the lineup and a couple more guys played a few more minutes than they typically would and I thought they did a great job tonight.

LoVerde, on the importance of the Reign scoring the game’s first goal again:
I think it’s huge. Any time you’re playing with the lead it gives a little bit more confidence. So yeah, I think it really helps our team game. It gives the young guys some confidence moving forward throughout the game so it was huge. It was two great team wins this weekend and we’re happy with it.

LoVerde, on the penalty kill going 5-for-5 and Campbell coming up with big saves:
Soupy played awesome. Probably took a little bit too many penalties, myself included. Stuttsy’s standing right over my shoulder so I better be careful what I say here. No, the PK was great today. Like you said, it hurts having Dermy out. He’s a huge part of our PK and I thought, like I said, Lintu, Sharpy, Les, Privo, all those guys who typically don’t play those PK minutes did a great job. It was a great team win. The PK was good. The power play probably could have been a little bit better but all in all I thought it was a great team win.
