March 16 postgame notes

-With the win, Los Angeles improved to 44-57-20 all-time against Buffalo, a record that includes a home mark of 28-24-9. The Kings finished with a 1-1-0 record against the Sabres in the season series. Los Angeles’ last remaining game against an Eastern Conference team will take place against the New York Rangers on Saturday, March 25.

-The Kings have won four consecutive games at Staples Center against the Sabres by 2-0 scores. Buffalo has a scoreless streak of 263:53 in Downtown Los Angeles.

-The Kings improved to 15-14-2 against the Eastern Conference, 6-9-1 against the Atlantic Division, 6-7 in two-goal games, 13-10-2 when tied after the first period, 13-3-4 when tied after the second period, 20-5-5 when scoring first and 26-20-3 when outshooting their opponent.

-With his assists on Jarome Iginla and Adrian Kempe’s goals, Dustin Brown recorded the 500th and 501st points of his NHL career.

-Jarome Iginla scored his 99th career game-winning goal to pass Bobby Hull, Guy Lafleur and Patrick Marleau (98) for seventh place on the NHL’s all-time list. With 622 career goals, Jarome Iginla trails Joe Sakic by three goals for 15th place on the NHL’s all-time list.

-Jonathan Quick recorded his first shutout of the season and the 43rd shutout of his career. His last shutout was a 21-save performance in a 3-0 blanking of Calgary on March 31, 2016. Since returning from injury, Jonathan Quick has posted a 5-1-1 record with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

-With a 2-for-2 penalty killing performance, the Kings have now killed off 58-of-62 penalties (a league-best 93.5% over that span) since John Tavares’ power play empty net goal on January 21 at Barclays Center. The Sabres, who entered the game with the league’s top ranked power play, did not register a shot on goal on either of their two man advantages.

-Anze Kopitar (0-1=1) has 10 points (3-7=10) in the last 10 games.

-Tyler Toffoli’s three-game point streak was snapped.

-Los Angeles attempted 68 shots (36 on goal, 17 blocked, 15 missed). Buffalo attempted 57 shots (26 on goal, 15 missed, 16 blocked). Marian Gaborik and Evan Rodrigues led all skaters with five shots on goal. All L.A. skaters other than Anze Kopitar (2 attempts blocked, 1 missed) registered a shot on goal.

-The Kings won 22-of-55 faceoffs (40%). Anze Kopitar won 7-of-21, Nic Dowd won 1-of-5, Adrian Kempe won 8-of-13, Jeff Carter won 6-of-15 and Jarome Iginla won 0-of-1.

Friday, March 17 is an off-day for the Kings. Their next practice is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18 at Toyota Sports Center.
