January 14 postgame notes

-With the overtime win, Los Angeles improved to 13-5-6 all-time against the Winnipeg franchise, a record that includes a home mark of 8-0-4. The Kings have never lost at home in regulation to the Jets or Thrashers, and according to the Jets’ website, have scored at least three goals in all 12 games. Both teams are 1-0-1 in the season series, which concludes on March 23 at Staples Center.

-Los Angeles improved to 9-1 in games decided in overtime. Since the implementation of three-on-three, the Kings are an NHL-best 21-4 overall (.840) in games decided in overtime.

-Los Angeles improved to 14-10-2 against the Western Conference, 7-5-2 against the Central Division, 13-5-4 in one-goal games, 14-4-2 when scoring first, 10-1-1 when leading after the first period, 7-2-2 when tied after the second period, 17-11-2 when outshooting their opponent, 8-1-0 on Saturdays and 19-3-3 when any player records a multi-point game.

-Darryl Sutter won his 617th career game, tying Jacques Lemaire for 12th place on the NHL’s all-time wins list.

-Jeff Carter (1-0=1) scored his league-leading eighth game-winning goal of the season. His three overtime goals are tied for the league lead with Marian Hossa of Chicago. With 23 goals, he ranks second in the league behind Sidney Crosby (26 goals). He has points in four straight games (2-5=7).

-With the win, Peter Budaj recorded his first 20-win season since 2008-09 (20-29-5) and third season of at least 20 wins. His career-high in wins is 31, set in 2006-07 with Colorado. Other than Jonathan Quick, he is the first Kings goalie to reach the 20-win plateau since Mathieu Garon won 31 games in 2005-06.

-By assisting on Jeff Carter’s goal, Jake Muzzin (0-1=2) registered his 100th career assist. He played in his 201st consecutive game.

-With his third period goal, Dustin Brown (1-0=1) extended his point streak to three games (2-2=4).

-With three assists, Anze Kopitar extended his assist streak to four games (1-6=7) and recorded his team-leading 20th assist of the season.

-By assisting on Marian Gaborik’s goal, Alec Martinez (0-1=1) extended his assist streak to four games (0-4=4).

-Los Angeles attempted 67 shots (38 on goal, 18 blocked, 11 missed). Winnipeg attempted 52 shots (28 on goal, 14 blocked, 10 missed). Drew Doughty led all skaters with eight shots on goal, while Blake Wheeler led the Jets with seven.

-The Kings won 41-of-72 faceoffs (57%). Among regular performers, Anze Kopitar won 16-of-25, Nick Shore won 4-of-7, Nic Dowd won 5-of-14 and Jeff Carter won 15-of-23.

The Kings are scheduled to practice at Toyota Sports Center at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 15.
