January 9 postgame notes

-With the loss, Los Angeles fell to 87-103-41 all-time against the Dallas franchise, a record that includes a home mark of 52-42-22. The Kings fell to 3-7-1 in their last 11 home games against the Stars and concluded the season series with a 1-1-1 record. Dallas is the first Western Conference team that Los Angeles has concluded its season series with.

-The Kings fell to 12-10-2 against the Western Conference, 5-5-2 against the Central Division, 3-4 in two-goal games, 8-13-2 when their opponent scores first, 5-10-2 when trailing after the first period and 5-5-0 when outshot by their opponent.

-The 10 combined goals represented the highest scoring game since Los Angeles defeated Edmonton 6-4 at Staples Center on March 26, 2016. The last time the Kings and their opponents combined for more than 10 goals was Los Angeles’ 9-2 win at Boston on February 9, 2016. The six goals allowed tied a season high for goals against (also: 12/13/16, 3-6 L @ BUF; 10/18/16, 3-6 L @ MIN).

-Anze Kopitar became the sixth King to appear in 800 games with the club, joining Dave Taylor, Luc Robitaille, Dustin Brown, Marcel Dionne and Rob Blake. His goal was the 247th of his career, surpassing Wayne Gretzky for sixth place on the Kings all-time goals list. The goal ended a 12-game goal drought and was the second goal he scored over a personal 29-game span. With two points (1-1=2), he recorded his first multi-point game since a three assist performance on December 4 against Montreal.

-Dustin Brown scored his 223rd career goal, surpassing Charlie Simmer for eighth place on the Kings’ all-time goals list. His goal ended a personal 15-game goal drought.

-Nick Shore scored his first career shorthanded goal. It was Los Angeles’ third shorthanded goal of the season (also: Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter).

-Alec Martinez registered a minus-5 rating for the first time in his career. He had been a minus-4 once (November 10, 2016) and a minus-3 five times in his previous 377 games.

-Jake Muzzin logged a minus-four rating for the second time in his career (last: December 13, 2016). In his previous 330 career games, he had drawn a minus-three rating only three times.

-The Kings attempted 64 shots (22 on goal, 23 blocked, 19 missed). The Stars attempted 44 shots (26 on goal, 10 blocked, 8 missed). Tyler Seguin led all skaters with seven shots on goal, while Jamie Oleksiak led all skaters with five blocked shots.

-Los Angeles won 34-of-70 faceoffs (49%). Anze Kopitar won 12-of-21, Nick Shore won 8-of-19, Nic Dowd won 5-of-11 and Jeff Carter won 9-of-19.

Tuesday, January 10 is an off-day for the team. The next practice is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11.
