December 8 postgame notes

-With the loss, Los Angeles fell to 35-29-10 all-time against the Carolina franchise, a record that includes a home mark of 22-12-3. The Hurricanes won at Staples Center for the first time since December 8 2005, a 3-2 win in which Martin Gerber earned the win and Mathieu Garon took the loss. Carolina had been 0-4-1 in Downtown Los Angeles since that win. These teams will conclude their season series at PNC Arena on January 26.

-The Kings fell to 5-4-1 against the Eastern Conference, 4-2-0 against the Metropolitan Division, 6-8-1 when their opponent scores first, 3-2 in two-goal games and 11-8-1 when outshooting their opponent.

-Los Angeles fell to 0-1-1 during a stretch of eight consecutive games against Eastern Conference opponents (4-5 SOL vs MTL; 1-3 L vs CAR; 12/10 vs OTT; 12/13 @ BUF; 12/15 @ DET; 12/16 @ PIT; 12/18 @ BOS; 12/20 @ CBJ).

-Los Angeles has allowed at least three goals in four straight games (1-2-1).

-The Kings did not take a penalty for the seventh time in franchise history (last: December 19, 2015 at Toronto). It marks the first time that has happened at home since April 27, 2013 against San Jose.

-Drew Doughty (1-0=1) has eight points (3-5=8) in the last eight games and with 14 points (5-9=14) moved into a tie with Alec Martinez (5-9=14) for the most points amongst team defensemen.

-By playing in his 453rd game as a King, Matt Greene moved within one game of tying Jaroslav Modry (454) for ninth place on the all-time list of games played by a Los Angeles defenseman.

-Jordan Nolan logged a season-high 12:53 of ice time, while Kyle Clifford logged a season-high 13:48 of ice time.

-The Kings attempted 58 shots (22 on goal, 20 blocked, 16 missed). The Hurricanes attempted 36 shtos (18 on goal, 11 blocked, 7 missed).

-Los Angeles won 29-of-47 faceoffs (62%). Anze Kopitar won 8-of-10, Nick Shore won 3-of-7, Trevor Lewis won 3-of-4, Nic Dowd won 4-of-10 and Jeff Carter won 11-of-16.

The Kings are scheduled to practice at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9 at Toyota Sports Center.
