November 23 postgame quotes: Kopitar, King

Anze Kopitar, on the team’s three goals in 44 seconds:
I think obviously getting the second one was big, and going into the last three minutes with the one-goal lead, that’s the kind of position we want to be in, protecting the lead, obviously, and getting a couple more for the insurance obviously feels good. It was nice to get that cushion and not have to worry about it in the last seconds.

Kopitar, on his first game back:
It felt good. Obviously I missed five games. It always shows – maybe it didn’t show, but I definitely felt that I missed five games. Obviously I’m pretty happy with where I was, but I can still play better, and I’ll try to do that next game.

Kopitar, on the most impressive aspect of the four-game winning streak:
I think just keeping it pretty tight. We pride ourselves in playing a hard-checking game, and I think when our checking is on, we’re getting chances offensively. Obviously in Anaheim the power play was working really well. Not the case tonight, but I guess we didn’t need it tonight. We’ve got to work on it, we’ve got to improve that too, and get it going again.

Kopitar, on whether the game was tight-checking:
It wasn’t too many opportunities. There was some stuff. Especially in the second period I thought we played pretty well. We were creating, but at the same time we’ve got to bear down on ‘em and capitalize on the chances.

Kopitar, on how he felt personally during his first game back:
I felt pretty good. I definitely could feel that I missed, what, 10 days now of game action. But it wasn’t too bad. I had a couple good hard skates the last few days, so that obviously helped, but I’ll continue to get better.

Dwight King, on whether the puck hit the shaft of his stick on his first goal:
Yeah. Same kind of thing – you could see they were going to the net. Me and Lewie were pretty much side-by-side. It happened to hit us both, to be honest, and then bounced the good direction in.

King on getting to the net for his second goal:
Yeah, that one’s just kind of drive to the net and those two made good plays. Obviously Drew made the pass, and then Trevor with the patience to get the goalie committed to him, leaving me an open net.

King, on playing with Anze Kopitar:
Like you said, we’ve played together bits and pieces over my time here. He’s an easy player to ready. Very simple game. He’s just really good at everything, so that helps a lot. He can control the pace of the game, which going in, you know what you’re going to get from him. Tonight, me and Lewie just tried to work for him. Get him some pucks in the O-zone that he’s good at holding on to and making plays and getting around the net.

King, on seeing the ice regularly against the Tavares line:
That part’s probably not as new as playing with Kopi. I mean, you can kind of expect to create a little bit when you play with a gifted player like him, but the shutdown part, I think me and Trevor, we’ve been used to it before. Not much changes in the game. Obviously you’re still aware of where they are.

King, on whether he’s happy with his production to date:
Yeah, I mean, you always want to do better. Obviously I got two tonight. Hopefully I can continue to build on it.
