November 17 postgame quotes: Setoguchi, Forbort

Devin Setoguchi, on the win:
…They have a lot of speed, a lot of skill, a lot of talent, and we kept it pretty fundamentally simple tonight with a lot of shots toward the net and a lot of second and third opportunities. We got a goal that was technically a power play, and it ended – that’s big for us. Our power play hadn’t been scoring, and to get them now in back-to-back games is something that we really take pride in, and special teams usually wins you games.

Setoguchi, on the root of his line’s success:
I think we’re able to read off each other and check as a five-man unit when we’re on the ice. If one guy’s going to a spot, we know where the other two guys are going to go and where they’re going to be. It’s key when you play with guys over a certain amount of time and you know their tendencies and where they’re going to go and what they’re going to do. I didn’t think we were that good tonight, actually, in the first couple periods. In the third, we kind of had a couple good shifts back-to-back and we were able to score one, but for us, it’s just being able to read and shutting down and getting in on the forecheck When we forecheck well as a line, that’s usually when we create our opportunities.

Setoguchi, on the team’s “up-and-down play”:
I mean, it’s tough to say. We went on the road, I think we gave up seven goals in the first four games, and we lost [three of them], so we just weren’t able to put the pucks in the net. It’s tough to say ‘inconsistency’ to ‘consistency,’ that’s the way it is. We’ve got to find a way to be more consistent, but it’s tough. Every team on any given night has a legitimate chance to win, so if you’re not at your best, the other team is. For us, we just need to find a consistent way to put together 60 minutes and stick to our gameplan and play the best we can.

Derek Forbort, on being able to defeat a younger, skilled team:
Yeah, I think we got off to a good start, and that was huge for us. We kind of let it get away from us a little bit, but guys like Carts and those guys were able to respond and get us back in the lead.

Forbort, on whether the team was “sagging” after allowing the game-tying goal:
No, as soon as they score that goal, it’s huge to have the next big shift and hopefully get the momentum back on our side. Carts and Toff were able to do that on that shorthanded goal, I think it was.

Forbort, on what the team did well to generate scoring chances:
I don’t know, I think we were just doing a good job moving pucks and supporting each other. We’ve got a lot of good forwards up there, so they were able to make some things happen and score some big goals for us.

Forbort, on avoiding a lengthier losing streak:
Yeah, we really wanted to come out and have a good start, just because we had kind of a little lull there coming into this game, and we were able to do that, so it was good.

Forbort, on how best to prepare for Connor McDavid:
I think you just try and contain him. He’s so fast, he’s so elusive out there, and you’ve just got to have a good gap on him and hopefully limit his build-up speed and just play him hard.

Forbort, on how his game is coming along:
Yeah, I mean it’s pretty easy playing with Drew. I mean, he’s obviously the best defenseman in the world, and I just get the puck and I’m looking to get it over to eight and let him do his thing.

Forbort, on his goal:
I was just trying to get it through. There was a bunch of traffic there, Cliffy made a good play, and I was lucky it went in.
