Good morning, Montreal

Good morning, Insiders, good morning, Montreal, and good morning hotel room I spent four days in last year (!).

I really enjoy writing these Good Morning posts, because I wake up, pour myself a cup of coffee, sit down to my computer and write about things that are very rarely hockey related. We’ve covered baseball, The Simpsons, a Highlighted Local Artist, Calvin and Hobbes, Munters units, and, today… iPHONE TECHNOLOGY.

For the last three days, my phone’s screen wasn’t rotating sideways. This becomes a challenge on the road, when it becomes Very Important to take photos of practices and morning skates (see: photographing Mt. Loud in its pristine, natural beauty), and capturing videos of the team’s daytime landings. This is an LAKI crime.

As such, I apologize profusely for this black-edged vertical plane video. Please forgive me.

That’s actually a beautiful approach into YUL; for a still shot, check out the swanky new Instagram feed on the right side of this page.

Back to the very interesting story at hand, iPhones. My orientation lock wasn’t turned on, so there was clearly some sort of glitch. Instead of trying to quickly find a solution to this, I more or less just kicked rocks and pouted for the first several days of this road trip until it became clear that something would have to give; another Good Morning post was due. One google later, I simply turned the iPhone off and on again, and voila! Photos that rotate. All of this would make very little sense some 30 years ago.

My apologies for the most boring Good Morning on the history of the site. For something more interesting, check out Chromeo, an excellent Montreal band. Go see them — they’re at Coachella every three years or so.

The Kings will skate at 11:00 a.m. at the Bell Centre. Because the Habs are among the teams that skate at their own facility in the morning – Arizona, San Jose and Los Angeles, off the top of my head, are the others – there won’t be any interviews from the home team’s dressing room today. It’s another beautiful day in Eastern Canada, Insiders. Let’s talk soon.
