October 5 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

On his assessment of training camp:
We’ve had a good camp. We want to be a playoff team, and we’ve had a good attitude, a good workmanlike attitude the whole camp.

On the focus over the upcoming days of practice:
I think just continuing to work on what we did at training camp. We’re trying to build our game, and we still want to see the chemistry. I know because of injuries we’ve had to move lines and pairs around. We’re still trying to see where that all fits and works.

On whether he liked the team’s pace and flow:
Yep. I’ve [liked] that this year all the way through. Again, a lot of it is timing, and now moving Brownie back over, guys with their sticks in different positions. Instead of righty-lefty, all that. It’s interesting. It doesn’t seem like much, but on the ice, it’s a lot, especially for defensemen.

On the regularity of Dustin Brown, Nick Shore and Trevor Lewis playing together last year:
Lewie’s played with them all. He’s kind of our- [Reporter: Handyman?] Yeah. He gets ‘er all cleaned up. Whenever you need anything. It’s funny – he can go to center. You know he can play anywhere there. You know he can play anywhere in your lineup. Thankfully we have guys like Brown who can play two or three positions and play in your top three lines. [Reporter: Having that variety with Trevor, where do you actually like him the best, if you were able to make that choice?] I guess I’d probably like him more on right wing, but at the same time, it’s easy to say his first shift that he’s playing right wing, so when you’re sitting up there and everybody thinks that’s who he’s playing with, there’s so much to do with penalty killing and after special teams and where he goes to different spots. He jumps in there if somebody’s getting their skate done or getting stitched up or something – you can just put him wherever you want. [Reporter: Nice goal, and a little bit of a fight, too.] Yeah, Lewie’s scored a lot of goals, if you look at it, a lot of his big goals have been goals like that, if you think back in the playoffs. He’s scored goals from that position.

On new special teams personnel:
Well, Christian is good on the power play, so you can see him moving there. After that, we had a good power play last year, too. That wasn’t an issue. We want to get more production from guys that were on it, so Christian’s the one guy that’s coming in, that I think can help because of his shot and composure. But everybody else is not really experimenting.

On Dwight King’s injury:
Kinger’s going to be out for an extended period of time. Blocked a shot, first period. Hit with a shot, so he’s out. [Reporter: You see that happen a lot, just in camp. Freak stuff.] He should wear it. [Reporter: Guard?] Absolutely. [Reporter: How many guys do?] We’ve got more. I think we’re up to maybe five now. I’m trying to think – Brownie, Marty, Drew, Carts. That’s four. [Reporter: When did that happen? I had some problems with my feed.] First period. Played the whole game.

On Jake Muzzin and Matt Greene’s injuries:
Greene and Muzzin are both the very same. They’re both eight days today, and they’re week-to-week. Neither one has taken on full game-type activities in practice yet, so I’d say they’re both doubtful.
