If you’ve ever played at Pickwick Ice on Riverside Drive in Burbank, you know that while it’s still a functional hockey facility, it could use a little sprucing up. Hey, here’s an opportunity!
The Kings are asking fans to help Pickwick receive $150,000 in upgrades and an opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game via the Kraft Hockeyville arena upgrade project / promotion. It’s a worthwhile endeavor, and even if Pickwick doesn’t finish atop the fan vote, there’s still a good chance it can receive funding of up to $75,000. There’s even an attached video that like all videos about California hockey opens with a beach sunset montage, and a personal plea of why the rink needs refurbishment.
Kraft also runs a similar Hockeyville campaign in Canada, and last year the rink in Colin Fraser’s adopted home of Sylvan Lake, Alberta received significant upgrades and hosted a preseason game between Calgary and Arizona.
Rinks eligible for an upgrade are divided into east and west brackets. Other rinks contending for the funding and the preseason game are located in Albertville, MN, Rapid City, SD, Fairbanks, AK, Decatur, IL, Sault Sainte Marie, MI, East Aurora, NY, Johnstown, PA, Highgate, VT and Quincy, MA.
First round voting runs through Thursday. To vote, you can either follow the instructions at KraftHockeyville.com (you’ll have to register), text PICKWICK to 35350 or call the toll-free number of (855) 255-5975.
