Williams, Doughty describe emotions after the loss

Justin Williams, on how he feels about not making the playoffs:
Depressing, embarrassing, unfulfilled, upset. A lot of emotions.

Williams, on what factors contributed to the Kings missing the playoffs:
That’s for the end of the season to look back and see what went wrong. The whole season isn’t just a couple games here and there. That’s for us to look back at the end of the season and see what happened.

Williams, on having missed the playoffs after winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina:
Yeah, and it felt extremely similar knowing that you have a team that won the Stanley Cup but you didn’t do enough to qualify for the playoffs. I said at the start of the season, the hardest part is getting in. [Reporter: The thing is if you had gotten in I would have picked you to beat Vancouver.] That’s the thing, we have a team and we know we could have done it all this year but didn’t do enough to try and keep our Stanley Cup.

Williams, on how much luck played a factor in them not qualifying for the postseason:
I don’t know. I’m not sure.

Drew Doughty, on how he would describe his emotions:
I think, really, everything. Disappointed. I think even embarrassed a little bit. As the defending cup champions, I don’t think there’s any way that we shouldn’t make the playoffs the next year. It’s disappointing, especially because of the group we have. We have so many good players and we definitely have a great team and we just weren’t able to show it consistently this year and that’s why we’re not in the playoffs.

Doughty, on the offensive inconsistencies:
I think a lot of the scoring was we’d be up two-nothing in a game and then we’d get three, four, five, six instead of scoring those big goals when you really needed them to either tie up the game or go up one goal. I think that was kind of what happened to us really with the season, but you can’t put it all on the scoring. There’s so many things that went into it. I really don’t know what to say. It’s just disappointing that we’re done.

Doughty, on the team playing a lot of games over the past three years:
Yeah, that’s true. A ton of hockey really, and we’re not going to use it as an excuse because we’d do it all over again obviously. [Reporter: It’s the reality.] Exactly, we’ve had a tough go. Maybe we’re not our best this season. Maybe sometimes guys were a little tire out there, but everyone still gave it their all. Everyone tried to play their best. Sometimes it just doesn’t go the way you want it to.

Doughty, on whether his emotions are similar to when they were eliminated by Chicago:
Well, I don’t know. It’s a little different. Losing to Chicago, we were one series away from the Stanley Cup Final, which is obviously what we work towards every single year. That was disappointing, but this is pretty disappointing, too. I don’t know if one out-measures the other, but yeah, this sucks.

Doughty, on whether the team “ran out of gas” this week:
I don’t know what the case is. Really, just not everyone collectively stepping up at the same time. You see some shifts are unbelievable – we have all the pressure, getting scoring chances. Then other shifts we come back and they’re in our zone. So we just have to, in order to win games, we have to collectively all play well at the same time and we weren’t able to do that.
