April 4 postgame quotes: Kopitar, Martinez

Anze Kopitar, on whether the win was representative of the Kings’ style:
Yeah. I thought we were handling the puck pretty well. Maybe we weren’t as sharp as we wanted to be right off the start, but we picked it up, and I thought we had a lot of O-zone time and we were able to score one late just to give ourselves a little bit of room to breathe, so that was god.

Kopitar, on shutting down two fast, skilled teams on the home stand:
I think we were just playing our style of game, really, and that’s what we have to do to be successful. There’s no secret to that. We’ve proven that, and now we’ve got to go on the road and play the same way. [Reporter: Started thinking about that road trip at all, yet?] Well, we’ll start thinking about it tomorrow, yeah. Starting to get ready, and we’ve got to get ready and fired up for this road trip.

Alec Martinez, on the win:
We did a good job of clogging up the neutral zone; we took away some time and space, had a few break downs here and there and Quickie came up huge for us. We definitely can play better hockey, but I’m obviously happy with the outcome.”

Martinez, on the confusion over whether his first shot should have counted:
Oh, yeah. I thought the first one went in, but I looked at the ref and he was shaking his head, and so I just tried to put it in again just for good measure, I guess.

Martinez, on the team playing with confidence:
I think that…we know what’s at hand. A lot of us have been through this similar situation before, so you can tap into that experience having gone through it. But I think that every season kind of has its own story, and this is a little unique. Obviously this is really, really down to crunch time, but I’m confident in the group that we have here. We all know that we can do it.

Martinez, on whether the playoffs have already begun for the Kings:
Yeah…Ever since I’ve been here, it’s always been really tight, especially in the west, coming down to the wire. You’re having to play playoff hockey before the playoffs even start. I think maybe the last couple times we’ve clinched a playoff spot, it might be game 80 or 81 – maybe even 82. Like I said, we know what’s at hand, and we’ve just got to take it one game at a time.
