April 2 postgame quotes: Doughty, Gaborik

Drew Doughty, on what he liked about the offensive efficiency:
I thought we did a better job of capitalizing on our chances. We played a decent game. We kind of slipped into their game a little bit in the third period, but that kind of happens when the score kind of separates like that. So it was a good game, big win and we need to win the next one.

Doughty, on whether they were especially focused at the start of the game:
Yeah, we always want to have that good start right off the bat. Obviously that was one of our focuses, just taking it a period at a time, winning each period and being able to get up three really early, that just put them on their heels and put us on our toes. We were able to take over the game from there.

Doughty, on his missing tooth:
Yeah, the Chicago game, third period.

Doughty, on whether this game helps them prepare for Colorado’s speed:
Yeah, I think they kind of play similar in that aspect but I think that Colorado is going to be a little bit more of a challenge for us at this point in the year. They’re a good team. Last time we played in their building, we didn’t play our best game but we got a big win and we need to get another one here tomorrow.

Doughty, on whether he was scoreboard watching during the game:
I don’t know where a scoreboard would be to look at. I don’t think anyone is, to be honest. I don’t know, you’ll have to ask someone else, but not me.

Doughty, on playing well in pressure situations:
We have a lot of guys that thrive under the pressure situations. We have a lot of heart and we believe in every single player in this room to get the job done and we have a lot of work left to do. So that’s only one game, we can’t get ahead of ourselves. Lots of work left and if you really want to talk about us coming up in big situations, we’ve got to win the remaining five games.

Doughty, on whether he feels bad about Tyler Bunz NHL debut:
Kind of, you throw him in a game where their team is just kind of not playing their best game and losing by quite a bit. It’s tough for a young goalie to come in and be put in that situation. Yeah, I feel bad a little bit, but at the same time it’s experience for him and he’s just going to get better with more experience.

Marian Gaborik, on thriving under pressure:
This was an important game, coming back after a long road trip, playing at home. We were talking about how we needed a good first period, we did and it just carried over. This team has been through a lot and throughout it all, in a situation like this, we know what it takes. Everybody knows how to prepare themselves and how to elevate their game. Everyone knows the importance of these games, and that’s just the way it is in this room. We have our next one on Saturday and we just have to keep climbing here.

Gaborik, on the score:
The first period was important. They scored one goal, then we got a couple more, and we just kept going. I felt bad for [Tyler] Bunz. It was his first game. It’s nice to get this one behind us and move on to the next one. Each game from now on, every game is huge, like this one. Now get ready for Saturday and keep climbing.
