On what he liked about the first period:
We played a patient game against New Jersey. We played ‘em at home a while back and we played into their hands. Tonight we didn’t. We moved the puck well and we scored a power play goal late in the first. Our power play was really good tonight.
On limiting New Jersey’s shots against:
I don’t think either team gives up a lot. I think coming into the game, what, both teams are like, what, seventh and eighth or something like that in goals against? So both teams have good structure to their game, aren’t going to give up much.
On Anze Kopitar:
He’s played really well lately. He’s handled the puck and managed the game and looked like a dominant player on the ice the last few games.
On whether it’s good to have Alec Martinez back:
Yeah, it’s good to have him back. Veterans are always good to have back, mobile guys. [Reporter: How would you evaluate how he played?] Martinez? [Reporter: Yeah, and I guess Mike, too.] They were both solid, and neither one had played in a while.
On the importance of picking up two points to start the trip:
Well, we know coming into New York – look who we’re playing. We go tonight into the Rangers, and look at what kind of year they’re having, and then we go to the Islanders. We’ve got our work cut out.
On whether he expects a different type of game against the Rangers:
I guess we’ll find out. You guys are the experts. You see ’em all the time.
