March 14 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On Jarret Stoll:
He didn’t skate yesterday, he didn’t skate today, so he’s probably not going to be available tonight. [Reporter: Can you say “upper-body,” “lower-body,” “mid”?] No. He’s not skating. Less is more.

On Andy Andreoff being ready for an opportunity:
You want more. I don’t know if it’s ‘opportunity.’ He hasn’t played many games. I look at when guys go in and out of the lineup what our record is, so guys who don’t play many minutes, you’re basing it on what your team’s record is.

On Nick Shore’s progress:
We need him to. Without Mike here, we need Shore to be a player. It’s not that hard to figure out. To be able to match-up in this division and this conference, you better be able to match-up right there. It’s why we go in and out of a playoff spot.

On why the Canucks seem to bring out the best in the Kings:
I mean, I’ve only been a part of it for upsetting them in the first year when we did it and they were a dominant team in the league, and we upset ‘em, so obviously with the guys who are still here, that’s obviously something that’s still there. They don’t have many guys left from that team, either. You know what? There’s always teams that a player plays well against, when you look at it, and there’s always a team that a player doesn’t play well against. I don’t overanalyze that stuff.

On whether the team is motivated to beat Nashville for the first time this season:
Well, we came from behind twice to gets points against them, Jon, so if it’s just about points, then we did. I know how you talked about everybody else that comes from behind, well, our team did it twice aginst these guys, against a team that’s right behind Anaheim for first overall. Drew Doughty scored the third to tie the game up [in Nashville] and we scored three in our last two or three minutes to tie it up [in Los Angeles]. [Reporter: What have you noticed from seeing them in person, Nashville, in how they had that really good structure that they’ve always had, how has that evolved this year under Laviolette?] Well, they’ve got a number one goalie who’s playing a whole year, the difference from last year to this year, I’d say is the biggest difference. You can play whoever you want, but if your save percentage is in the .880s, it doesn’t matter how your team plays.

On having played Jordan Nolan with Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll:
Yeah, it worked on the road. It was a bigger line, that’s all it was. At home it’s totally different. We’re only looking at [how] it worked in Colorado a little bit, and we wanted to use it against Vancouver because of the way they match. Just gave us a bigger line. They play Kassian with the Sedins, so hopefully Nolan can play against a player like that.
