March 7 postgame notes

-With the overtime loss, Los Angeles fell to 71-59-22 all-time against Pittsburgh, a record that includes a home mark of 45-18-9. The Kings are 3-4-4 in their last 11 games against the Penguins.

-Los Angeles fell to 13-12-4 against the Eastern Conference and 4-6-3 against the Metropolitan Division.

-The Kings’ penalty kill has successfully killed off 31 of their past 32 shorthanded situations.

-Los Angeles fell to 11-8-13 in one-goal games, while Pittsburgh improved to 15-3-9 in one-goal games.

-The Kings fell to 3-13 in games that extend past 60 minutes.

-Los Angeles failed to score on Pittsburgh in 121:44 of head-to-head play this season.

-Jeff Carter’s three-game goal streak, Anze Kopitar’s two-game assist streak and Marian Gaborik’s two-game point streak were snapped.

-Only nine Penguins recorded shots on goal: Kunitz x4, Malkin x3, Hornqvist x3, Crosby x2, Letang x2, Scuderi, Martin, Comeau, Pouliot.

-The Kings out-hit the Penguins 37-36. Dustin Brown led all skaters with six hits.

-Los Angeles blocked 13 shots. Robyn Regehr and Matt Greene tied with a game-high four blocks, while Drew Doughty blocked three shots and Nick Shore blocked two.

-The Kings attempted 47 shots (31 on goal, 9 blocked, 7 missed). The Penguins attempted 43 shots (18 on goal, 13 blocked, 12 missed). Marian Gaborik led all skaters with six shots on goal – he did not miss the net or have any shots blocked – while Drew Doughty (5 on goal, 2 missed), Evgeni Malkin (3 on goal, 3 blocked, 1 missed) and Chris Kunitz (4 on goal, 2 blocked, 1 missed) finished tied with a game-high seven shot attempts.

-Los Angeles won 26-of-55 faceoffs (47%). Among regular performers, Anze Kopitar won 15-of-24, Dustin Brown won 2-of-3, Jarret Stoll won 3-of-9, Nick Shore won 3-of-5 and Jeff Carter won 3-of-13.

Sunday, March 8 is an off-day for the Kings. The team’s next practice is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9.
