March 7 morning skate notes

Good morning from El Segundo. According to my car’s thermometer, it reached 82 degrees while passing through Culver City at 9:45 a.m. before plummeting to a more comfortable 78 upon arriving at Toyota Sports Center. Enjoy this beautiful March day if you’re not a blogger who shuns sunlight.

Lines from today’s morning skate:

Gaborik – Kopitar – Lewis
King – Carter – Toffoli
Brown – Stoll – Williams
Clifford – Shore – Andreoff – Nolan

Regehr – Doughty
McNabb – Sekera
Muzzin – Greene
McBain

Notes:

-Don’t expect any changes from Thursday’s lineup. Andy Andreoff and Jamie McBain remained on the ice for extra work with Martin Jones, so they’re not likely to play against the Penguins (7:00 p.m. / FOX Sports West). Jonathan Quick left the ice first and is expected to get the nod in goal.

-Alec Martinez (concussion-like symptoms) took the ice for the second consecutive day. He didn’t participate in any drills, though he did join Andreoff, McBain and Jones after other players had left the ice. As of this blog post, Tanner Pearson did not skate (though he was present at the team’s facility).

-Pittsburgh isn’t holding a morning skate, so there won’t be a bevy of reports on the visitors this morning. Expect Marc-Andre Fleury to start in goal tonight after Thomas Greiss earned the win in the Penguins’ 5-2 triumph over the Ducks last night. Expect Gardena native and former Los Angeles Junior King Beau Bennett to play tonight; the 23-year-old who was Nick Shore’s teammate at the University of Denver has never played at Staples Center and made his Southern California professional debut in last night’s win.

-FOX Sports West coverage will begin at 6:00 p.m. on a special Legends Night in which the statue of Luc Robitaille will be unveiled outside of Staples Center. The Kings are scheduled to wear their gold jerseys for the final time this season. I’m heading downtown shortly for Legends Luncheon interviews and FSW work; bear with any brief delays on the blog this afternoon. In addition to the usual game day-related posts, I’ll also have a Robitaille story up later today.
