February 12 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On whether the Kings were finding their game over the last two games:
We played really well in Florida, the game we lost. If you watched it, we made those two mistakes that cost us. You can’t do that. It doesn’t matter if you’re…‘back to your game.’ If you make individual mistakes, you’ll never get back to your game. We’ve played really well since the break other than the game in Washington where we couldn’t handle their big guys.

On the Calgary Flames’ season:
They had a really good one last year, too. They were really overlooked. They started getting banged up last year, and if you look at probably somewhere just before the Olympic break, they really established their game. I think the difference in their team now is clearly they went out and got a number one goaltender. They haven’t had one since Kiprusoff, and now they have Hiller, and it’s proven. Their game has come on tremendously. And it’s not just something that happened this year. That’s something that’s been coming…if you look at those four guys on the back end, everybody’s looking for the top-four guys, and you get the goalie, and away you go. [Reporter: The speed, too? They seem to have a lot of speed.] It’s no different than anybody else in the league. I don’t think it’s anything – the puck goes faster than the feet.

On what he likes about the Regehr-Doughty pairing:
We’ve been all over with moving guys around. It’s been an off-and-on thing the last few games. It’s more trying to get some stability in our pairs. Obviously, Martinez’s injury, they’re not really pairs. Drew’s playing a lot, so it’s sort of getting guys with him. Muzz has had his – I think he’s coming along again, so hopefully that’s a good sign for him. We’ve basically taken him away from Drew to take a little bit of that pressure off of him.

On the Kings wearing “purple and gold” in tonight’s game:
It is. Is it? Or is it gold and purple? It’s purple pants, so does that mean anything? I’m not sure. Well, I guess it’s always purple pants [for Legends Nights]. It’s always purple pants, isn’t it? [Reporter: I think they call it Forum Blue.] Yeah, I think that’s right. [Reporter: You like those, though.] Oh yeah, I like those. They look good. It’s nice to get it changed. We’re black and white. It’s good to see a little color, too. [Reporter: Everyone should have a throwback.] Yeah. I wish we could wear ‘em more. I think it’s just the three, isn’t it? [Reporter: If you win all three of those, do you try and wear ‘em more?] Well, the only thing about wearing ‘em those three is this year, now it’s Tony and Luc, so there’s always pre-game stuff. Like tonight’s a 7:40 stuff or whatever…If they say ‘7:30, 8, once you do your ceremony, you’re looking at another, what, eight to 10 [minutes.] You’re pushing into somewhere 7:45 and 8 o’clock, all the time. [Reporter: You guys have had a lot of those this year.] Yeah, we have. We had three in a row where they were late games. Blakey’s thing, the doubleheader game which made late start, and…there were three in a row where we got out of the rink at midnight. [Reporter: Us, too.] Yeah, you’re right.
