January 17 postgame notes

-With the shootout loss, Los Angeles fell to 54-43-23 all-time against Anaheim, a record that includes a home mark of 33-17-11. The teams will conclude the season series with games at the Honda Center on February 27 and March 18.

-The Kings fell to 1-2-3 during a season-long seven-game homestand (OTL vs NSH, L vs NYR, SOL vs WPG, W vs TOR, L vs NJD, SOL vs ANA, 1/19 vs CGY).

-Los Angeles fell to 13-6-8 against the Western Conference and 7-2-5 against the Pacific Division. The Kings lead the NHL with 11 overtime and shootout losses; Florida and Colorado rank second with 10.

– Los Angeles fell to 2-11 in games that extend past 60 minutes and has lost seven consecutive shootouts. Kings shooters are 2-for-28 on the season in the shootout and have been denied on the last 22 attempts since Marian Gaborik’s shootout goal in Anaheim on November 12.

-Nine of the last 10 Los Angeles-Anaheim games have been decided by one goal. The Kings fell to 5-6-11 in one-goal games this season, while the Ducks improved to 22-0-6 in one-goal games and are an NHL-best 63-6-20 in one-goal games since the start of 2012-13.

-Los Angeles was outshot for the first time since November 29, ending a span of 20 consecutive games in which the Kings either outshot their opponents or were tied in shots. Los Angeles was 8-7-5 in those 20 games, having averaged 33.4 shots on goal over that span.

-In the 21 games since December 1, the Kings rank first in the league with a 58.3% Corsi-for percentage in five-on-five play (1058 Corsi for / 756 Corsi against) and rank first in the league with a 57.6% Fenwick close percentage (412 Fenwick for / 312 Fenwick against).

-Over the last 21 games, Los Angeles has outscored its opponents 61-59, excluding shootout goals. Over that span, the Kings have averaged 2.90 goals per game, while their opponents have averaged 2.81 goals per game. Los Angeles has scored at least three goals in 11 of its last 17 games.

-The Kings have killed off 10 of 18 power plays in January.

-Marian Gaborik extended his point streak to four games (3-2=5). He has 17 points (11-6=17) in his last 14 games.

-Drew Doughty’s three-game assist and point streak was snapped.

-Anze Kopitar has 50 career points (21-29=50) in 48 career games against Anaheim.

-Los Angeles attempted 62 shots (28 on goal, 15 blocked, 19 missed). Anaheim attempted 58 shots (31 on goal, 12 blocked, 15 missed). Dustin Brown led all skaters with nine shot attempts (3 on goal, 6 missed).

-The Kings won 37-of-76 faceoffs (49%). Among regular performers, Mike Richards won 5-of-13, Anze Kopitar won 13-of-25, Jarret Stoll won 12-of-24, Nick Shore won 2-of-6 and Jeff Carter won 5-of-8.

The Kings are scheduled to practice at 11:00 a.m. at Toyota Sports Center on Sunday, January 18.
