January 17 postgame quotes: Gaborik, Shore

Marian Gaborik, on the shootout loss:
I think played a pretty good hockey game. Just have to close it out. Coming into the third period up by one, just have to close it out, and obviously the shootout, that’s been an issue for the whole year. The points are getting away on us in the shootouts, so we just have to find a way to win. Quickie gives us a chance, and we just have to try to find a way to put some goals in.

Gaborik, on whether there is anything specific in shootouts that needs to be improved:
We’ve been practicing a bit. We just have to try to bear down. We have enough talent here that guys can score goals. Just have to bear down. Get that one win and the confidence level will go up and just got to grind away.

Gaborik, on whether the close games indicate that the teams are closer than the standings show:
I mean, I think so. Both teams are very powerful. The games are always physical, and I think for people, are fun to watch. It’s a rivalry, I would say. We got a point, but we just have to find a way to win these shootout games.

Gaborik, on whether he has ever seen a shootout drought like the Kings’:
I know Jersey had gone through [one], but like I said, we have enough talent here. We just have to find a way to bear down and put some goals in. Obviously, like I said, we were going into the third period with a two-one lead, and we just have to find a way to close it out.

Gaborik, on whether the Kings’ place in the standings is a concern:
It’s not early in the season. We’re way past the half, so we just have to find a way. We’ve been playing a bunch of games at home and we didn’t get the result we wanted to. We have a couple games before we go into the break, and Calgary coming in- [Reporter: That turns out to be a big one, doesn’t it?] Yeah, of course. Every game is a big game, and Calgary has been playing good hockey, so we just have to get ready and play a full 60 minutes.

Nick Shore, on settling for one point in his NHL debut:
It was a great experience. You work a long time to get to a spot like this, but like you said, it’s a little disappointing. I think we all came out looking for the win. It didn’t happen.

Shore, on any “butterflies” during the game:
Yeah, obviously a little nervous the entire day going into it, but after the first couple shifts you just sort of get into the groove and start playing hockey.

Shore, on needing points against a tough team like Anaheim:
Yeah, I mean Anaheim’s a great team. We knew it was going to be a challenge tonight, and I think we’re going to look back on it and get better from it, but right now you’re just a little disappointed with the loss.

Shore, on whether there was any “welcome to the NHL” moment:
I wouldn’t say so. I think just being a part of the whole game, and obviously the ceremony with Blake at the beginning was a cool experience.

Shore, on getting a power play shift:
We didn’t get it done, but they scored right after that, so that gave us a huge boost at the time towards the end of the period on the four-minute [double minor]. Any time you’re out there on the ice, you try to contribute.

Shore, on thoughts about playing his brother, Drew, a forward with Calgary:
I haven’t really thought about it too much already. I’ll have to talk to him, see how their game went tonight.
