January 17 postgame quotes: Anaheim

Ryan Getzlaf, on whether the team struggled against Los Angeles’ defense:
I mean Quickie made some big saves, too. It wasn’t that we weren’t getting pucks to the net. We were working pretty hard to get in there in a tight game against them.

Getzlaf, on whether the rivalry brings out the best in both teams:
Yeah, it was great. Obviously it’s as heated a game we’ve had against these guys in a while. I think we got away from it a bit over the last little bit just because of the amount of games and that kind of stuff. It was a very heated game for them. [Reporter: A lot of hitting.] Yeah, some guys didn’t even know there was a puck out there. I thought both teams responded well. They were hitting. Good, clean body checks that were hard. I thought it was good.

Getzlaf, on whether the late start to the game affected them:
I thought both teams did a good job coming out. I mean it was great hockey game throughout the whole thing. They capitalized on their power play. We capitalized on ours late and we were able to win in that shootout. … That was a good hockey game.

Getzlaf, on whether there is anything they took away from the game:
Just who we’re playing, this is as good a team as you’re going to play in this league when they’re playing. I thought tonight, like I said, both teams were going hard. We were fortunate enough to come out on top.

Jakob Silfverberg, on his shootout goal:
I was just trying to switch it up. I’ve been shooting a lot of glove. So I just went in and took a quick shot on the blocker. [Kesler] has been doing that a lot of times and it went in and that was a good feeling.

Silfverberg, on getting the win in Staples Center:
It feels good. It’s a tough building to play in and it’s a tough team to play. They play hard and obviously coming out with a win here is huge for the team. It brings out confidence and hopefully we can continue on this success.

Bruce Boudreau, on why uses Jakob Silfverberg in the shootout:
I do remember because when he played with Ottawa they played a game against Boston. I remember the announcer saying he had a tremendous release and he was great at it. We got him the very next year and it dawned on me that that’s what he said because he did score in that game in Boston doing the same stuff he does now. So I gave him a shot at it and he scored and he scored again and scored again. [Reporter: Does it matter when he’s facing Jonathan Quick?] That shot was a pretty great release. I don’t know where it went or anything. I didn’t see it. I’ll have to look at it again on tape. But all I heard was the ping and then the cheer, so it was good.

Boudreau, on whether they take anything away from this game:
I think the fact that we can compete with them. They had three days off from their last game. Yeah they’re missing a couple guys, but I’m pretty sure that was a pretty determined group out there. We played three games in four nights. I just think now we can compete with them. They may win, but we’re not afraid to play them anymore.
