January 14 postgame quotes: Williams, Greene, Martinez

Justin Williams, on whether there’s any commonality between the games in which the Kings surrender goals in bunches:
If I could pinpoint it I’d nip it in the bud right away, but it’s another loss. Another five goals against. Another loss in our home building.

Williams, on whether the challenges are tactical, emotional or cerebral:
I think a lot of them are mostly emotional. Yeah, we’ve gotten some bad breaks, but emotionally we weren’t there to grind out a game two-one. Sometimes you feel great, sometimes you don’t, but you still find ways to get wins. We’re not even doing that.

Williams, on whether it’s frustrating that the Kings haven’t taken advantage of the homestand:
Yeah, it sucks.

Williams, on the second period breakdown:
I think our power play unit, the other power play unit…we didn’t get the momentum or goals that we needed on power plays. Three in the first period, another one after we tied it one-one. They scored on the first two. I mean, deflating, and it’s on us, the players who get the most ice time and who are expected to score goals to not only produce, but create your team momentum, and we didn’t do that.

Williams, on whether it’ll help that Anaheim visits on Saturday:
I mean, Anaheim’s a team within our conference that we know all about. We better get a turnaround.

Matt Greene, on the “cluster” of goals against:
Yeah, it’s not good enough. I think it all starts from the one given up late in the first there. We’ve got to kill that penalty. That’s been our problem all year long, is giving momentum at the wrong times, and we did it again tonight, and that’s solely on the PKers, myself. That’s something that’s got to be a lot better. [Reporter: Concentration?] Just more effort. More effort and willingness to get it done, and that’s it. That’s speaking for myself, that’s what’s got to get better. Everybody’s got to be better. It starts with yourself.

Greene, on whether the challenges are tactical or emotional:
Just effort. I think the coaches do a good job breaking it down for us every night. It’s just a matter of us to show up and do it.

Greene, on not being able to take advantage of games on home ice:
You’ve got to get points every time you can. We’re struggling right now to hang on to a playoff spot. We’ve got to get every point we can.

Alec Martinez, on how to flush this game and focus on Anaheim on Saturday:
Well, I think we’ve got two days of practice. We’ll get back to work tomorrow.

Martinez, on any commonality between games in which the Kings surrender goals in bunches:
I think we just need more effort.

Martinez, on special teams:
On our power play, we had three opportunities right at the beginning of the game. We’ve got to capitalize on those, especially against a team like that.
