January 14 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On whether he’s excited to work with Doughty, Foligno and Kane at the All-Star Game:
Well, Drew was named a while ago. He’s having a great year. I think that was inevitable that he was named. [Reporter: It said that he’s on your team, and you’re going to coach him this year, and the fact that someone from the host city, a King and a Blackhawk, is that something that’s neat to you?] Well, I think it’s great for the Foligno boy. I played against his dad. To be able to be a captain in his host city is awesome. He’s had a great year. It’s good to see those blue collar identity guys like him being on all-star teams. Other than that, I’m not really coaching those guys. We’re going to watch. It’s really the one time the whole year that players get to show their individuality and not X and O’d. I’m not going there to coach. I’ll go there to watch.

On whether he enjoys the All-Star Game’s fantasy draft:
I’m sure Drew and Patrick and the captain will do an awesome job of picking the teams. It’s pretty tough to go around, isn’t it? [Reporter: Well, you don’t want to be last.] I remember the one year, he made a pretty good career out of it. Logan Couture.

On the New Jersey Devils:
I think first off, if you look at it, they have outstanding goaltending. Both guys have really good save percentages and really good goals against. That’s a huge part of good teams’ games. And, obviously, their experience up front – they’ve got a lot of guys with big numbers – historically big numbers – and they still have that skill set. They still protect the puck. They still look to make the plays. They still hang on to the puck in traffic. That’s the biggest thing that I see. I mean, that’s from just knowing the experience of ‘em.

On whether it was important for Martin Jones to “bounce back” on Monday:
To bounce back? He hadn’t played for a month, so I don’t know if he got to bounce back. We need both our goalies to win games…Simple. We’re giving Quicker another chance to get at least six or more days between games, and you need your other goalie to win you games. It’s not “bounce back.” They either win or they lose. If we wouldn’t have won the other night, then Quick would’ve played tonight. It’s not ‘somebody ahead of the other.’ We’re trying to win games going into the break, be in a playoff spot.
