Surgery for Pearson

Per hockey operations, Tanner Pearson’s fractured left fibula will require surgery later this week. At this point, there is no timetable for his return.

I saw Pearson in the Kings’ facility earlier today, and he was in good spirits and doing as well as one could expect given the circumstances. He was using crutches and was not yet in a hard cast, which would be expected given the impending surgery.

Three months before the Kings selected him with the 30th pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, Pearson suffered a broken right fibula that ended his 19-year-old season with the Barrie Colts and made a full recovery. At the time, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com wrote an interesting story on Pearson’s emergence prior to the injury that ended his junior career. Per this report by The Record, surgery was not required.

Pearson rebounded well from his prior injury and made a seamless transition to the American Hockey League that fall, posting 47 points in 64 games before appearing in one game during the Kings’ second round playoff series against the San Jose Sharks.

In 42 games with the Kings this season, Pearson has 12 goals and 16 points.
