Catching up with Nick Shore after the morning skate

After skating as an extra as part of a group including Kyle Clifford, Andy Andreoff and Jordan Nolan at today’s morning skate, it isn’t likely that Nick Shore will make his debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Staples Center tonight.

That didn’t stop LA Kings Insider from catching up with Shore, who received notice of the call-up after having traveled from Manchester to Boston to visit one of his younger brothers, who was in town for a hockey tournament.

“I drove down to see him, and then I got the call. I had to [return to Manchester to] pack my stuff and go right back to Boston,” Shore said.

Nick Shore, on joining the Kings during the regular season:
It’s different and it’s a real experience so far. I couldn’t have been more excited. Obviously when you get that call it’s something that you work for, for so long. So I’m happy to be here right now and just looking forward to everything.

Shore, on Manchester’s recent performance:
We have a really good group of guys and I think, even from the beginning, got off to a really good start and just sort of carried it through. Anyone who is up there in Manchester is doing a great job right now. Stuts has got everyone on the same page and I think everyone is buying into the system.

Shore, on what has contributed to the season he’s been having:
I think it’s just a product of working a little bit harder, trying to get better every day. I think we’ve had some great opportunity there. I got off to a great start playing with great guys night in and night out, so that definitely helps.

Shore, on potentially facing his brother Drew, who was traded to Calgary last week:
No, that really hasn’t registered yet. I think that’s a little too far down the road to be thinking about right now. I’m happy for my brother and I think he’s happy to be there.

Shore, on whether the team has articulated his role:
I’m not sure. It’s all still pretty new to me. It’s going to be a good experience. I think just from hearing some things, just try and play the same game that you played out in Manchester. We’ll see how it goes and hopefully we’ll get into one here.
